Chana masala, also known as channa curry, is a dish originating from the Indian subcontinent.

Ingredients

  • White Channa – 1 cup
  • Onion(nicely diced) – ½ cup
  • Tomato – ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves, Salt, Water - as required.
    To temper
  • Oil  - 2 tsp
  • Cinnamon – 1 inch
  • Cardamom – 1
  • Clove – 1, Star - 1
  • Curry leaves – few as per your need
    To Grind
  • Grated Coconut – ½ cup
  • Ginger – ½ inch, Garlic – 1
  • Cardamom– 1
  • Cinnamon – ¼ inch
  • Clove – 1
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp.
  • Pepper – 10
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Cashew – 10

Steps

  1. Soak Channa in hot water for 4 to 5 hours
  2. Keep Channa with enough water in a cooker and boil(5 whistles).
  3. Grind the items mentioned under “To Grind” section with little water and some boiled Channa in a mixer. Grind it to a paste.
  4. Heat oil and temper with ingredients given under temper.
  5. Add onion, ginger garlic paste and salt to it. Sauté till onion turns golden brown.
  6. Add tomato and sauté for few mins.
  7. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder & garam masala powder and sauté for few mins.
  8. Add grinded paste, Channa,  1 cup water & salt(to taste). Cook for 10 mins.
  9. Once oil start floating on top, turn off Stove. Add some coriander leaves and serve it.
