Story/Overview

 

When Lord Murugan went to Valli's hut in the guise of an old man to marry her, he fell in love with Valli's beauty and gave her Foxtail millet flour and honey. Foxtail Millet rice is one of the varieties of rice that has been in our circulation since ancient times. Foxtail Millet is one of the forgotten cereals that we can use to prepare many dishes like Pongal, pudding, uppuma, sorghum. Foxtail Millet pudding is nutritious and even tasty.

Recipe & Cooking Method

Recipe: Thinai Rice Kichadi
Ingredients:
Thinai rice   - 1 cup
Water   - 2 cups
Carrot, beans, Onion, ginger, garlic finely chopped
Cinnamon  - 1 small piece.
Ghee to paste

Preparation:

1. Wash the rice and 2 cups of water and soak it for 30 minutes.
2. Pressure cook it adding salt and beans & carrot up to 6 whistles.
3. Add Cinnamon.
4. Heat a Pan, Sautee onion, ginger and garlic for a while and add to the cooked rice and mix it well.
5. Add Ghee to the taste and serve it hot with coconut chutney.
